ONE WEEK REPORTS
INTRODUCTION
When on Monday, 28th September, 2020, the ICT teachers of different private schools across different states in the South West Nigeria gathered together at Livingstone College of Arts and Science, Akobo, Ibadan for Level 1 Training Course in Robotics Education, little did they know that they can learn so much within one week of training.
Within one week and without prior knowledge of coding and programming, they learnt how to assembly and couple a Robotics Starter Kit, how to code and programme a robot to achieve barrier detection and avoidance, colour sensoring, infrared sensoring, geomagnetic sensoring, ultrasonic wave sensoring, etc
Closing and Induction Ceremony
On the final day of the week-long event, dignitaries and guests gathered at the multipurpose hall of Livingstone College of Arts and Sciences, Ibadan to witness the closing ceremony and induction of the trainees.
Practical Demonstration
The ceremony opened with practical demonstration of the knowledge of Robotics Education gained by the trainees in the course of their one week of learning.
Presentation
A powerful presentation on Robotics Education Awareness Programme (REAP) followed by the Convener, Dr AdebareEgunjobi. It was an explosive session that kept everyone glued to their seat and yearning for more
Induction Speech
A short but professionally inspiring speech was delivered by the Chairman of the Occasion, The Head, Department of Industrial and Production Engineering, University of Ibadan, Dr Kunle Kolawole after which other dignitaries on the high table also took their turns to address the house.

Three factors are germane: the right Technology Partner, the relevant Robotics Kits and trained Robotics Instructors who will in turn train the students in the class.
What are the factors to consider in the choice of Technology Partner and Robotics Kits to be adopted?
Simplicity, versatility, usability, durability and availability.
Simplicity. It must be very simple to use and operate by every student regardless of the prior knowledge and experience in programming and coding. Some kits are complex that if you have not attained certain age or dexterity in programming you cannot handle them. A relevant Kit must be useable by all and sundry.
In our just concluded Robotics Instructors Training School, an eleven-year-old got it so seamlessly, same with a 60-year-old woman in the same training class. That is how you know a good Robotics Kit.
Versatility. It must be versatile to be able to teach coding, programming and Robotics all at the same time. Some schools will spend years teaching coding without any practical applications, a relevant Robotics Kit must be able to incorporate everything and it is possible. Within one day, trainees were able to assemble the Kit, code and programme the same day just by the aid of that same Kit. That is how to identify a good Kit.
Usability. It must be useable by the children in primary school and adults in university without restriction of age and location with scalable and scaffolding training curriculum
Durability. It must be durable and rugged with higher battery power and longer shelf life that will not be easily spoilt or defective. Some Kits are too fragile for African terrain and too power dependent. Such will not be relevant for countries in Africa with characteristic epileptic power supply.
Availability. It must be available in terms of sales, spare parts, services and solutions. There must be Manufacturers Representative in the country who will be on ground to attend to complaints and enquiries of users.
Is it possible for a particular Kit to meet all the considerations listed above?
It is very possible. That is why African schools should do their home work well before adopting Robotics Kits from just any Technology Partner. If we get it wrong from the Starter Kit, we will most likely get everything wrong ultimately. Different companies should be consulted and compared before settling down with one. The Kits we are using at Robotics Instructors Training School have all those factors well taken care of holistically.
At what age or class can one commence Robotics Education in the school?
Kids as young as 7 years of age can start coding and learning programming basics. In fact, coding for kids has gained popularity rapidly in recent years as technology becomes increasingly part of everyday life. Kids who learn to code when they’re young can set themselves up for a lifetime of opportunities for success. However, when children advance in age, their tendencies to pick Robotics faster is higher. From Primary 4 upwards will be most ideal.

No, your delegates cannot attend the training before purchasing the Kits. They will need the Kits for the training
How soon can I get my Kits after payment?
For now, delivery of Kits takes place 3 weeks after payment. As soon as economy stabilises post pandemic, it will return to cash and carry.
How regularly does the training hold?
For now, the training holds on regular basis depending on how Kits are bought. We place fresh orders on the 10th of every month. To be able to attend the subsequent edition of the training, you should make your payment before 9th of every month.
After the training, what next?

It depends on your choice considering the peculiar situations of your school. However, there are three available options as discussed below:
1. Classroom teaching method
Fix Robotics Education into the school Time Table and teach it round all the classrooms like other traditional subjects
Advantage: The awareness will spread round all the students in the school and everyone will have equality of access to the programme
Disadvantage: It will not be effective especially if there are no sufficient Kits, laptops and space for hands on practical.
2. Club activities
Make it strictly club affair and let only the interested students join the School Robotics Club. Training will be done during club activity days.
Advantages: Will be more effective as interest plays vital role in assimilation of any concept. The smaller class sizes will also be easier to teach and the club can be another good source of revenue for the school
Disadvantages: A large cross section of the students may be denied the opportunity of learning about Robotics in their lifetime.
3. Combined method
Use the classroom method for marketing and academic effects while you use club activity method for functional and business effects
